NCAA Office Pool Tips

It's become a right of passage between blue collar and white collar alike. Much like the development of fantasy sports, NCAA Tournament office pools have become a linchpin to office unity. Everyone from the brash sports guru to the 65-year-old secretary put their money on the table and take a shot at picking the perfect bracket during those last cold, dreary days of winter each March.

NCAA Conference Tournaments

March Madness is the official term of the NCAA Division I-A men's basketball tournament, but the actual madness begins two weeks earlier. The conference tournaments are just as wild, if not wilder. The conference tournaments are completed in three or four days, with some teams playing each day. This is where the Cinderellas get their invites to the ball, where below .500 teams come from nowhere to win championships and the automatic berths that come with it. This is where bubbles are burst or teams earn the right to compete for a national title.

Betting On March Madness

As a handicapper whose basis for selections consists almost exclusively on fundamental and situational analysis, I don't change my methods during the frenzied betting period aptly nicknamed March Madness. However, that being said, there are some additional situational factors that apply to this season ending span of college basketball which must be considered, and I'll point out a few along with key fundamental aspects that have delivered success for me in handicapping these games.

Some players neglect developing good ball handling skills for some reason or another. Doing so will limit how good they can be.

Washington Wizards coach Eddie Jordan may coach his players not to travel, but his tongue walked a bit too much after the Wizards NBA playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Jordan is paying for it.

Whether fans care to see it or not, sports in every term are a business venture. With wins comes revenue, with losses come nothing. Many sports franchises are in the same boat, yet one team stands as a very limping endeavor. This team is the Utah Jazz, of the NBA.

As the NBA draft, slated to be held in New York on the 28th of June rapidly approaches, one team has seen the luck of the lottery draw turn in its favor. The Toronto Raptors with a lowly 8.8 percent chance of winning the ping-pong ball type lottery stole the front seat and stand a good chance of gaining some leverage from it.

Ali G interviews NBA superstars

Ali G interviews Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson about the NBA on TNT. Pretty funny.

Every year around this time I ask myself the same question - why is Billy Packer the lead analyst for CBS's coverage of March Madness?   While Packer is working the game for the TV audience, Bill Raftery is calling the game for the much smaller radio audience with more passion, knowledge, and love for the game than Packer.

When ABC traded Al Michaels to NBC this off-season, ABC replaced Michaels with Mike Breen as their lead NBA play-by-play announcer.   Breen will now be calling the NBA Finals with Hubie Brown, Michaels former partner.   Breen is an established play-by-play announcer, but is he the best in the business?

One great thing about the NBA and commissioner David Stern is that they fix mistakes with their game. Case in point - in 2003 the NBA switched the first round of the playoffs from a best-of-five game series to a best-of-seven to help ensure that the better team advances. That's why it's mind boggling to wonder why they won't change the playoff format to account for debacles like this season.

The Women's National Basketball Association, created in 1996, is the first women's league to be fully endorsed by the NBA, their male counterpart.

How were your predictions for the final four? For the NCAA championship? Well, your predictions were as good as the sportscasters. Such hype!

Before Syracuse and Pittsburgh advanced to the final, no team had ever achieved four games to gain the Big East tournament. If you just focused on Syracuse and the way McNamara carried the team on his back in the Big East, you would've had your fill of enthusiasm.

When March Madness rolls around, the key to cashing in is not figuring out if Duke can beat Elon University by 45 points in the first round or not. The key is finding the sleeper teams that are undervalued against the number that can pull of the upset and make a run in the Tournament. We have isolated 5 teams here that we believe will be under valued for one reason or another but who can make a serious splash come March. We will break down these 5 tradition rich teams who will not be given the respect they deserve come tourney time who will be looking to make their marks.

Important upcoming dates on your calendar should include March 15th, 17th and April 1st. March 15th, the Ides of March, marks the day that Julius Caesar met his demise, and it's also the day after March Madness tips-off. March 17th is, of course, the day when everyone is Irish, and it's also the mid-point between the NCAA Tournament's first and second rounds (March 16-19, 2006).

The Detroit Pistons have everything on their side right now. Time, wins, great players and some say they may be one of the best NBA team to ever grace the professional courts of the NBA. What do you think?

It's that time of year again and everyone from the seasoned professional to the novice soccer mom with be filling out their brackets in search of the perfect ticket. 2006 was an interesting regular season starting with the top horses beginning the year strong but slowing down near the end of the season. Also, many mid-major teams made cases throughout the year to get included in the field of 65 and many of those were left disappointed on Sunday. Taking a look at prior years can tell us a lot heading into this season.

What was it, which made Dominique Wilkins make those windmills or 360 spins so fast? Weren't you just nervous in a way, from the thought that you can't possibly do that and you though you'd give just about anything to be able to do that, so that you can impress your friends maybe with your astonishing dunks. Sounds familiar? Well here are some of the things I heard that Michael Jordan was doing to develop his vertical leap that he had at his best years of playing: He spent 2 hours a day, playing with weights on his legs. Not to mention the countless hours he spent on the court doing dunks or trying to perform dunks that he knew back then he wasn't capable of. Consider how many times he spent jumping under the rim just grabbing those rebounds. Isn't it amazing to think how many pounds of sweat he has "drained" from his tireless body. The point is, every player that you can think of has dedicated great deal of time jumping and jumping and jumping.

The NBA All Star break may not be the exact midpoint of the season, but it is the marking point of the start of the more important part of the season: the stretch run! While there is a lot of basketball left, it is still a key time for handicappers because many teams are focused on division titles and playoff seeding. And other teams know their season is shot and could begin to put out less of an effort, or even try young kids and new combinations while looking ahead to next season.

To be able to jump higher, you have to exercise your muscles against resistance in the same way that you use them when you jump. How high you can jump is determined by the force that you can exert when you contract your leg muscles against gravity. You strengthen muscles by exercising them against progressively greater resistance, such as lifting heavier weights.
